Tue, 26 Jan 1999 Source: --

Kofi-Nyamekrom (Ashanti Region), 25 Jan. '99 - More than 500 cocoa farmers at Kofi-Nyamekrom in the Atwima District, have appealed to the Government to rehabilitate the six- kilometre feeder road linking the town with Otaakrom to facilitate the evacuation of several tonnes of cocoa and other agricultural products. They expressed their readiness to use 10 million cedis mobilised through their one kilogram deduction on each bag of cocoa to support the project. They made the appeal at a meeting with Mr Peter Yaw Mensah, District Chief Executive, when he visited the area as part of his five-day tour of some parts of the district. Mr Osei Tutu, assembly member for the area, explained that the wooden bridges members of the community built across streams in the area have all become weak. He said approval was given for the maintenance of the road under the Agricultural Sector Investment Project in 1995 but nothing has yet been done on it.
