Gomoa Brofo (C/R), May 17, GNA - Work on the reconstruction of the Bailey bridge over Ochi River at Gomoa Brofo, which collapsed about two months ago is progressing.

The 110 feet bridge constructed in the 1950s collapsed when a truck of the Adventist Development Relief Agency (ADRA) carting materials for the drilling of boreholes in the communities attempted to cross it. The driver's mate was killed in the accident.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency at Gomoa Brofo, Mr E K T Bondzie, Project Engineer of the Bridge Unit of the Ghana Highway Authority, said materials from the Unit's head office at Kukurantumi and Takoradi had arrived and work started.

"Barring any unforeseen circumstances the bridge will be ready for use by the ending of May," Mr Bondzie said. Gomoa Asempanin, Ajumakoansa and Brebiano had been cut from the rest of the district due to the collapse of the bridge.

The District Chief Executive, Miss Joyce Aidoo had to hire vehicles for schools beyond the river to convey students through Ajumako Mando to Gomoa Adaa to write their Basic Education Certificate Examination. 18 May 05
