Collins Dauda not a scapegoat for your bad police record - Sammy Gyamfi fires IGP

Aspiring National Communication Officer of opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi has fired Inspector General of Police, David Asante Apeatu over the latter’s attempt to ‘intimidate’ NDC MP Collins Dauda.

Mr Sammy Gyamfi, in an article forwarded to MyNewsGH.com accused the IGP of being a lame duck and incompetent, refusing to, or unable to take action on the issues that matter to Ghanaians.

“May I state for the information of the IGP, that members of the NDC will not be cowered by his intimidating tactics.” He wrote.

ENOUGH OF THE IGP’s NEEDLESS INTIMIDATION OF HON. COLLINS DAUDA AND THE NDC MEMBERS OF ASUTIFI SOUTH CONSTITUENCY

It appears to me that the Inspector General of Police, David Asante Appietu is on a deliberate mission to intimidate Hon. Collins Dauda and the NDC members of the Asutifi South Constituency. The IGP after sitting aloof for general law and order to breakdown under his watch, now thinks the easiest way to save his sunken image is to deploy a needless intimidating tactic against NDC members.

It would be recalled that last week, in the course of the ongoing Limited Registration exercise in the Asutifi South Constituency, a fight broke out between a supporter of Hon. Collins Dauda and a member of the NPP. In a bizarre twist of events, the police arrested the supporter of Hon. Collins Dauda and charged him for assault, even though two men engaged in an open scuffle. As if that was not enough, the police subsequently charged Hon. Collins Dauda for abetment of crime, and invaded his house both in his constituency and in Accra, in a Rambo fashion ostensibly to arrest him in flagrant disregard of his parliamentary immunity.

This unprofessional action of the police was roundly condemned by the Speaker of Parliament and the Minority and it has now come out that the men who were to effect that arrest are masked men belonging to the NPP’s invisible forces.

Just yesterday, at the hearing of the case of assault, over 70 heavily armed Police Men stormed the court premises with riffles in a manner akin to going to war. All this is part of the grand agenda of the IGP to intimidate Hon. Collins Dauda and members of the NDC.

May I state for the information of the IGP, that members of the NDC will not be cowered by his intimidating tactics. Mr. IGP, let me remind you that you have sat down with your tail in between your legs, whilst state-sponsored violence took the better part of this country for nearly two years. Mr. IGP, were you not in this country when Kwaku Addai of the NDC was shot and murdered in cold blood by NPP thugs in the Asutifi Constituency on 17th July, 2017. Mr. IGP, were you not in this country when one of your men, DSP Nanka Bruce was captured on camera being brutally assaulted at the seat of Government by members of the NPP’s Invisible Forces? Yet you failed to arrest even one of those hoodlums. This was followed by a series of attacks on public servants in the performance of their lawful duties without a scintilla of action from your end to tame the impunity. You watched on timidly whilst the marauding Delta Forces of the NPP attacked the Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator, dragged him on the floor and humiliated him. You did nothing when the same Delta Forces invaded a court of competent jurisdiction in Kumasi and freed their colleague criminals standing trial, only for the state to subsequently issue a nolle prosequi.

Mr. IGP, let me remind you that under your watch, NPP youth attacked a Police Station in Karaga and freed men in lawful custody. It would appear you are also oblivious of the daily reports of violence meted out to innocent Ghanaians in areas such as Sankore in Asunafo South.

These are but a few of the litany of violence and state-sponsored thuggery under the watch of the current IGP. The tenure of office of the IGP is certainly not one to be proud of, and seeking to placate this government for his inertia by visiting needless vendetta on members of the NDC will not be countenanced. This belated attempt to put fear into political opponents of this government in order to atone for the IGP’s inability to maintain law and order will be fiercely resisted. Mr. IGP!, get your hands off Hon. Collins Dauda and the innocent NDC Members of Asutifi South!.
