The Convention People’s Party (CPP) is more united than ever and all former members should join forces with the party to rescue Ghanaians from their worsening plight, Chairman of the CPP, Professor Edmund Delled has appealed.
Prof Delle believes it is time for defectors to return to their home party as it commemorates its 67th anniversary, in order to salvage what he described as a wobbling Ghanaian economy.
A number of the CPP’s members have left the party for various reasons. Prominent among those who have left are Dr Papa Kwesi Ndoum, the party’s 2008 presidential candidate, who later formed the Progressive People’s Party (PPP).
The most recent to have resigned from the party is its 2012 flagbearer Dr Abu Sakara Foster.
Addressing a news conference to commemorate the anniversary in Accra on Monday June 13, Prof Delle said the anniversary should signify a new beginning for all disgruntled members to put their differences aside for the greater cause of winning the November 7 general elections.
“CPP is the only party that can save Ghana and it is a duty for all of us to vow that never again shall the CPP be seen as a party, which is just silent. We are strong enough and this should be a warning that it is not the party of 10 years ago. From now onwards, all members of the party, who have for one reason or the other left the party, we are inviting them to come back; CPP has risen and will never die again”.
Meanwhile, the party has also indicated that its manifesto is ready and will be launched as soon as preparations intensify for the Nov 7 presidential and parliamentary elections.
General Secretary of the CPP, Nii Armah Akomfrah told Class FM’s Kwesi Parker-Wilson that: “Our manifesto is more than ready and as you know, the last time we were the first to launch our manifesto on 12 June. We do not believe that we have to necessarily be the first but we have a manifesto, our team has done a wonderful job and we are fine tuning it. We need to go through certain processes and we will not be far off from the launch”.
