Truth stands. And because truth stands, it is like a coq that when pushed under even the deepest part of the ocean, will float to the top of the water and make itself visible to all. That is the fact about the man President John Evans Atta Mills.
All that is going on regarding the confession by Baby Ansabah is about just one thing- the integrity of President Mills, nothing more, nothing less.
Against this backdrop, the main concern of the detractors of President Mills about Baby Ansabah’s confession is a clear case of yet another confirmation of the President’s integrity by an NPP person. This is because politically, this plain truth about the President is taking centre stage, as the nation’s electoral clock ticks gradually towards 2012.
Not too long ago when an NPP guru, Mr Kwame Pianim publicly vouched for the integrity of President Mills, he was nearly eating alive by elements in his party for saying such kind words about the President, which they considered suicidal for the NPP. They saw the statement as an indictment on former President Kufuor and its consequence for the future of the party in terms of elections.
For that matter, a delegation was immediately dispatched to go and gag Mr. Pianim and since them, he would dare not open his mouth favourably about President Mills. What Mr Pianim said was simple. He would stand up any day for the integrity of President Mills without fear or favour.
Mr. Pianim’s position had absolutely confirmed former President Rawlings’ consistently proclaimed stand that President Mills is truly a man of integrity.
For somebody like Baby Ansabah, who was a through and through poisonous critic of President Mills to also be proclaiming this noble virtue of President Mills therefore absolutely blows the minds of the President’s detractors. But Baby Ansabah says he has found the light, and no intensity of darkness can overcome his new found light. The Baby Ansabah story is reminiscent of the biblical story of Saul who became Paul, the Apostle of Jesus Christ when pursuing the disciples of Jesus Christ to Damascus for persecution and the unexpected happened. Saul turned a new leaf after a spiritual encounter with Jesus Christ, who called his name and said ‘Why are thou persecuting me?’ Saul fell off his horse, became blind there and then, and regained his sight three days after but not before the scales fell from his eyes physically. He then assumed his new name, Paul and since became an unflinching disciple of Jesus Christ.
A significant lesson in the Paul biblical story is that before his encounter with a higher power that transformed his life from a captive of darkness to being a liberation of light, Paul in ignorance thought he was pleasing God by causing to be jailed and killed, the disciples of Jesus Christ including Stephen.
Therefore, like Saul on the way to Damascus, Baby Ansaba admittedly had pursued and caused to be persecuted President Mills and his disciples until President Mills decided to open his (Baby) eyes to the reality about himself (President Mills). Eventually, the scales have fallen from the eyes of Baby Ansabah and his eyes are fully open to the true nature of the man President Mills. Apparently, Baby cannot believe his eyes.
Like Paul the Apostle of Jesus Christ, whose religious ideological orientation shifted from Judaism to Christianity immediately his encounter with Jesus Christ took place, Baby Ansabah has, after encountering the goodness of President Atta Mills, decided to have a political ideological paradigm shift.
Listening to Baby Ansabah speak to Paul Adom Ochere on Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana last Thursday night, he made a few revelations worth mentioning.
Even though he insists he is still NPP, Baby Ansabah has denounced Capitalism to becoming a social democrat. To him, Social Democracy is the right political philosophy to pursue for the betterment of everybody as it is being demonstrated by President Mills, where everyone has equal chance of enjoying the national cake as against the NPP’s capitalism which makes the nation’s wealth available to only a privileged few, who then use those resources to control the masses.
Baby Ansabah also stated that he together with others who wished the downfall of President Mills in the past held the false belief that he would be a weak president who would be subject to the control by “somebody.” But one year on, nothing like that has happened. He said President Mills is fully in control of affairs of this country and showing clear excellent leadership qualities.
According to Baby Ansabah, coming close to President Mills made him discover his true nature of goodness, humility and sense of responsibility and that is why he has regretted all the evil machinations he had helped in carrying out against him. To Baby Ansabah, President Mills is unreservedly a good man by all standards- a man of integrity.
Baby Ansabah could not have put it any better than Mr Kwame Pianim has. President Mills is the ideal leader that Ghana has found at this very moment. This is a President who has set himself to bringing about true reconciliation and national unity by extending an olive branch to those who considered him their enemy with no strings attached. What else can we ask for as a people?
