The Techiman Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has begun an outreach programme to educate the electorate on the forthcoming Metropolitan, Municipal and District assembly elections in five communities in the Techiman Municipality.

They are Bonkwae, Forikrom, Bamiri, Tanoso and Traa.

The programme being undertaken with the assistance from the European Union (EU) is to educate the people on the decentralization concept and the need to make the right choices.

Mr Stephen Kyeremeh, the Senior Civic Education Officer at the Techiman Municipal Directorate of the NCCE, appealed to the people to participate in government policies and programmes in order to give meaningful suggestions to enhance local government structures in their communities.

He explained that under the decentralization policy instituted in the 1992 Constitution, it was important for the people at the grassroots to advocate for projects to be undertaken in their electoral areas instead of waiting for the government to decide on projects for them.

Mr Kyeremeh urged eligible candidates to file for the assembly and unit committee elections to be elected to lead the people as advocates.

Mr Effah Moro, Assemblyman for Sansama Electoral Area, said partisan politics had affected development in the area and urged the people to bury their differences and rekindle the spirit of volunteerism in organizing communal labour.

Nana Afena Osei II, Chief of Traa, said there was lack of development in the area because there was no unit committee to initiate development projects.
