The Education Committee of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs on Wednesday commenced verification visits to 11 out of the scheduled 26 educational institutions in the Region.

Togbe Kwaku Ayim IV, Paramount Chief of the Ziavi Traditional Area and Chairman of the Committee, said the visits were prompted by intra and inter party polemics about government’s performance in the region.

“We, the chiefs, are custodians of the land, and are out to see the facts on the ground to report back to our people,” he stated.

The projects visited include the three-storey girl’s dormitory at Mawuli Senior House School, two-storey 12-unit classroom block at Ho-Kpozi, six-unit classroom block at Mawuko Girls and facilities for the University of Health and Allied Sciences in Ho.

The rest are seven projects at the Taviefe Senior High School, projects at the Tsito Secondary Technical and the Awudome Secondary School.

Among the projects are dormitories, classrooms and administrative blocks completed or at various stages of completion as well as, kitchens, teachers’ accommodation and libraries.

Workmen were seen busy at work at the Taviefe Senior High School and Sokode Secondary/Technical School where many projects were being undertaken.

At Tsito-Secondary Technical the team upbraided Magsam Company for the slow progress on school’s 12-unit dormitory block which was awarded a year ago.

Togbe Ayim expressed delight at what the team had seen adding that the university project was progressing steadily and asked those still in doubt to visit the sites themselves.

He appealed to designers of the projects, many of which were being funded by the GETfund, to ensure they were disability friendly.

The team also inspected progress of work on the three, two bedroom teachers’ quarters at Anyirawase being put up by the Ho Municipal Assembly with support from the Social Investment Fund (SIF).

Mr Isaac Kodobisah, Ho Municipal Chief Executive, said 15 other projects for which the Assembly had paid 20 per cent of counterpart funds were progressing and that projects visited were only a few of the many projects going on steadily in the Municipal Area.

Members of the committee on the trip were Togbe Delume VII, Paramount Chief of Ve-Traditional Area, Togbe Agboka VI, Paramount Chief of Leklebi Traditional Area, Togbe Abliza IV, Paramount Chief of Volo Traditional Area and Nana Afrifa Akuamoah IV, Paramount Chief of the Akpafu Traditional Area.
