Communication service providers urged to improve upon quality of service

Gomoa Ankamu (C/R), July 6, GNA - A United Nations On-line Volunteer, Mr Rui Oliveira, has urged communication service providers in the country to improve upon quality of service to customers.

Mr Oliveira, who is an information communication technology (ICT) consultant, said the development of the nation depended to a large extent on ICT services; therefore it was important that communication service providers made their services efficient for the nation to derive the maximum benefit.

He is in the country with his wife to help the New Life Foundation a Gomoa Ankamu based non-governmental organization, to build a website to promote the activities of the organisation.

Mr Oliveira, a Portuguese, who said he was in Ghana for the first time, praised Ghanaians for their hospitality and the peace in the country.

The UN Volunteer said he had visited 13 African countries so far and described Ghana as an exception and noted that in some countries even personal safety could not be guaranteed.

Mr Oliveira commended the New Life Foundation for the efforts it was making to reduce poverty in Gomoa Ankamu and its environs.

He said he had trained 15 youth in computer literacy since his arrival in the country about a month ago.

Mr Edmund Osei Kwakye, Executive Director of the NGO was full of praise for Mr Oliveira and his wife for the wonderful work they were doing to help the NGO to improve standard of living in the area.

He said whilst the man was training the youth in computer literacy, the woman was also training the females on how to make bags using the crotchet.

Mr Kwakye said his organization in collaboration with Adventist Relief Agency (ADRA), Winrock International and Relief International, had embarked on a USAID funded four-year project to provide toilet facilities to seven communities and five institutional latrines to schools.
