Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has offered to cover the cost of mammograms and ultrasound services for twenty women who were screened at Rainbow Radio’s free breast screening exercise in collaboration with the Trust Hospital in October.

The Ablekuma West Member of Parliament made the pledge when she joined the exercise on Friday, October 25, 2024.

The Minister underscored the need for Ghanaians, particularly women, to prioritize breast cancer screening since early detection helps save lives.

She commended the station for organizing the exercise, describing it as a great initiative. Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful interacted with the medical professionals from the Trust Hospital and participants of the exercise.

The Minister and MP also presented a special birthday cake to the midmorning show host of Rainbow Radio, Sokoohemaa Kukua, and commended her for initiating the screening exercise.

“This is a positive initiative. Sokoohemaa is celebrating her birthday, and it’s great that she didn’t just drink and eat but also organized a breast screening exercise. October is breast cancer awareness month. Doctors have advised us that early detection can save lives. It is not detectable without screening. Women over 40 should regularly inspect their breasts or get them examined by professionals.

Breast cancer is a serious condition, but early detection can aid with therapy. We should all be encouraged to take the exam. Some people have died as a result of advanced cancer. Some others had their breasts removed. We should take it seriously. We also encourage our males to support our women and to scan for breast cancer on a regular basis."

She also encouraged Ghanaians to exercise regularly, drink plenty of water, eat fruits and vegetables, and avoid junk foods.

She added that these exercises have helped her live a healthier lifestyle.
