Taabosom (C/R) June 21, GNA - Five Communities in the Mfantseman District of the Central Region are each to be provided with a 10-seater vault chamber toilet under the Rapid Result Initiative (RRI), a component of the Community-Based Rural Development Project (CBRDP). The beneficiaries are Amissakrom, Akoanso Egyirfa, Taabosom and Eshirow.
Speaking at Taabosom and Eshirow during the sod cutting to mark commencement of work on the two projects, Mr. Jonathan Benefo, District Planning Officer explained that as the name implied the Rapid Result Initiative was introduced to encourage community participation to facilitate early completion of projects. Mr. Benefo said the RRI was being implemented on pilot basis in the Central Region and urged the beneficiaries to prove that it was the best method for executing projects. He said the CBRDP had provided 120 million cedis (GH1002) for each of the projects, being 75 per cent of the cost whilst the communities were to provide 25 per cent in the form of communal labour, provision of water, sand and stones and the project were expected to be completed within 90 days.
Mr. Robert Quainoo-Arthur, District Chief Executive, who cut the sod at separate ceremonies called on chiefs to apply the assembly's by-laws on communal labour without fear or favour. The DCE said if any one defaulted in participation in communal labour without any tangible reason and refused to pay the penalty, such person should be sent to his office for him or her to face the full rigours of the law.
"I don't see why some people should refuse to work on a project which will benefit every body including they themselves and be allowed to go scot-free", the DCE stated. Mr. Quainoo-Arthur cautioned against politicisation of projects and urged them to work hard to meet the deadline. Mr. J.K. Botah, Assembly member for the area appealed to the assembly to ensure regular supply of materials to enable them to complete the project on time.
