Suhum, Sept 2, GNA- Four cocoa growing communities in the Suhum-Kraboa-Coaltar District in the Eastern Region, have appealed to government to as a matter of urgency construct a bridge over river Mameing. This is because the wooden bridge over the river, which linked the communities to Dome, Suhum and Asamankese, constructed by the people, collapsed four years ago, affecting socio-economic activities in the area. Nene Tei Omersu, the Odikro of Osudoku, made the appeal on behalf of the people of Osudoku, Anum, Okper and Tutu, at a communal labour organized, to clear weeds along the river. He expressed worry that people, especially children and the aged got drowned while crossing the river. Nene Omersu also asked government to provide the people with good potable water since the river was the only source of drinking water. Mr Emmanuel O. Asare, assistance head master of Dome Roman Catholic Primary school, said pupils could not go to school whenever the river overflows its banks, affecting teaching and learning. He said last two years, two pupils got drowned while crossing the river to school at Dome. Mr Asare said as a result of that some parents had withdrawn their children from the school.
