Communities ink Dangbe East to get potable water

Kumasi, Feb.29, GNA - Over 40 communities in the Dangbe East District are to benefit from the 24 billion cedis Aveyime-Kablevu water project being executed by the Dangbe East District Assembly in partnership with the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) through the Community Water and Sanitation Agency.

Already, 11 communities including Adonorkope, Dorngwam, Monaikpo, Korlekope and Togbloku had already been provided with pipe-borne water. This was disclosed by Mr Kofi Plaha, Dangbe East District Chief Executive when he met the Ada community in Kumasi recently. The meeting was to brief them on development projects taking place in the district and solicit their contributions towards the development of the district.

He said, over 30 feeder roads had either been spot improved, reshaped or re-gravelled, while the first phase of the Ada-Foah town roads surface dressing was progressing and the tarring of the Ada-Foah to Pute road will commence this year.

According to the DCE, over 140 projects have so far been executed in the district and said they included schools, places of convenience, a Biogas plant, roads, a community zoo and community health compounds. He said the assembly, in collaboration with the District Health Management Team (DHMT) have instituted two important health programmes in the district --the Global Parasite Control Initiative (GPCS) and the Dangbe East Health Surveillance (DESH).

Mr Plaha said the GPCS takes care of the periodic examination and de-worming of school children in the district, while the DESH had trained over 300 health volunteers, equipped to monitor and report on disease outbreak in their communities.

On the thorny Songor Salt Project, the DCE said a 13-member technical committee made up of representatives of relevant ministries, departments and agencies and the four land owning clans had been formed to prepare a policy framework document on the project. He appealed for unity since in his view the government had been more open and frank and called on them to contribute their quota towards the development of the district.

Nene Tetteh Tsirappah 11, chief of the Ada Community in Kumasi praised the DCE and his entourage for bringing the district closer to them and reminded the people about the importance of education and asked them to contribute more towards quality education in their communities.
