Forikrom (B/A), May 11, GNA - Thirty community based extension agents drawn from three communities in the Techiman municipality have attended a day's workshop on poultry and bee keeping at Forikrom. The communities are Fiaso, Forikrom and Tanoso.
The workshop, organised by Abrono Organic Farming Project (ABOFAP) and sponsored by the Global Environmental Facility (GEF), was aimed at equipping the agents with the necessary know-how to help farmers in income generating activities.
They were taken through local poultry feed preparation, feeding; usage of drugs, mixing of feed and oxysten sheds, among others. Nana Kwaw Adams, Executive Director of ABOFAP and Twafohene of Forikrom said the objective of the workshop was to equip the farmers with some managerial and technical skills to enable them to effect changes in poultry and bee keeping.
He said the community based extension agents had targeted 1,650 farmers in the Municipality with extension services. Nana Adams announced that Care International funded the training programme at the community level, whilst Global Environmental Facility supported farmers in Alternative Livelihood Option in Bee-Keeping and Poultry.
Mr Charles Ampofo, administrator of ABOFAP asked the participants to take the workshop seriously to justify their selection, so they could educate others.
Mr Daniel Gyase Odo-Yewu, Director of Forikrom Poultry project, urged the agents to teach the farmers the correct usage and mixture of feed through proper application.
He mentioned the use of fish, soya beans, tuna fish, copra cake, layer premix, wheat brand, anapuna salt and corn chaff, as useful for the preparation of local poultry feed.
