Nkwaeso (B/A) Dec. 8, GNA - The Chief and people of Nkwaeso in Techiman Municipality bagged 20 million cedis at a fund raising harvest towards the construction of a 200 million cedis library project.

The project, expected to be completed within two years, would be funded through fund raising activities and assistance from NGOs, while the people would assist with communal labour. Mr. Prince Yaw Donyina, Techiman Municipal Chef Executive reiterated that the government was "leaving no stone unturned" in providing free basic education for all children of school-going age. He called on parents to play their complementary roles to enhance the success of the pragmatic educational policies of the government by enrolling their children in schools.

The Municipal Chief Executive urged the people to jettison partisan politics in their social activities and interactions and come together for the development of the area.

Mr. S. A. Twumasi, Managing Director of Techiman Goil Filling Station and a citizen of Nkwaeso asked parents to provide their children with their basic needs like pencils, pens, exercise books. He promised to bear the cost of the Library project, estimated at more than 40 million cedis, to the foundation level.

Mr. Asi Kwame, Assembly Member for Nkwaeso-Sansua noted that apart from exposing pupils to the accumulated vision of human civilization, reading also helped in developing their means of communication towards enhancing their imaginative and creative powers.

He expressed regret that very few parents had guided their children to appreciate reading as a form of leisure, whilst many of them had allowed their children to rather attend video shows and dances. "This attitude has caused the low level of education in this area", he said and called for effective measures to propel the children to attain dizzy heights in education.

Nana Foase Gyan 11, Chief of Nkwaeso asked the people to rekindle their communal spirit towards the completion of the library project and appealed to non-resident citizens to contribute their quota towards the development of the area.

Mr. Musah Asante, chairman of Techiman Municipal Timber Market who presided, urged parents not to allow their school children to focus attention on money-making ventures as the attitude retarded their academic progress.

He donated 10 million cedis out of the 20 million cedis realized in an appeal for funds towards the library project.
