Company Donates Towards Open Heart Surgery

The intravenous infusion limited based in Koforidua has donated a cheque for one million cedis towards the cost of an open heart surgery to be performed on a three year old boy, Kennedy Adjetey Sowah, at the National Cardiothoracic Centre, at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. The donation which was received by the father of the boy, Mr.. Felix Adjetey Sowah, a newspaper vendor, is the company's contribution towards the 3,500 dollars (about eight million cedis) being the cost of the operation. The General Manager of the company, Mr.. M.K. Aboagye, who presented the cheque at a ceremony at Koforidua, announced that his firm will provide all the intravenous fluids that would be required during and after the operation. The director of technical services, Mr.. Samuel Appenteng, said the donation is part of the company's humanitarian service. The company recently renovated the pharmacy department of the Koforidua Central Hospital and donated fluids to the ministry of health to help fight cholera and cerebro spinal meningitis (CSM) outbreak in some parts of the country. Mr.. Sowah commended the company for its gesture and said his son would be admitted for the operation next Monday. He thanked those who responded to the appeal for funds launched on behalf of his son by the "Daily Graphic." In an another development, the Eastern Regional branch of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), donated 500,000 cedis towards a similar surgery at the cardiothoracic centre for Mr.. Samson Brefo Ghansah, a student of the University College of Education , Winneba. The Regional Secretary of the Association, Mr.. Agyei Barfi, presented the cheque to Mr.. Ghansah to defray part of the 17 million cedis (about 7,500 dollar), being the cost of the operation. Mr.. Ghansah, whose condition has compelled him to drop out of the university after only two months, has appealed for more donations.
