Appointees of President Nana Akufo-Addo can do well in office if they satisfy three main indicators – competence, loyalty to the leader of the country and party as well as dedication to the country, political science lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Dr Mohammed Abass has stated.

According to him, each of the appointees has unique qualities for which they have been picked for the various portfolios, however, the three indicators should be a minimum to guarantee success, saying he expected that the president made such appointments based on such considerations.

Dr Abass made these remarks during an interview on Accra News on Tuesday January 10 following Mr Akufo-Addo’s naming of the first batch of 13 appointees for various ministerial positions.

“There are three indicators that should be applied to all these persons. If they are able to meet all these three, then they can perform the roles assigned them,” he told news anchor Nana Agyen Barima.

“The first one is the appointee’s competence and experience in the sector to which he has been assigned. If the appointee has good knowledge of the area, I believe it will be positive for him and for Nana Akufo-Addo.

“Second is the commitment and loyalty of the person to the leader and to the party, because if that is absent, then it is a minus – the appointee won’t be able to carry out his duties effectively.

“Thirdly, the same loyalty and commitment should be shown the country generally because the minister is coming to serve the country, rather than see to his political interests.
