Government has been urged to complete the stalled girls’ dormitory of the Senya-Beraku Senior High School as a matter of urgency.
The work on the multi-million Ghana-cedi project, which is expected to house about 300 female students when completed, started nearly three years ago, but came to a standstill sometime last year.
“Up till now there is no sign of the work being continued.”
A spokesperson for the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) told the Ghana News Agency after the inspection of the project on Friday that the call has become extremely necessary because the absence of the official premises to house the female students has, for years now, virtually compelled authorities of the school to rely on a rented private house as a dormitory for the students.
He disclosed that the institution has paid a total of GHC9,360 as an annual rent for the 2013/2014 academic year, under the contractual agreement signed between the landlord and the school authorities.
The spokesperson, who wants to remain anonymous, said it would be advisable for the government to ensure that the project is completed before the end of the 2013/2014 academic year, so that the huge sums of money being used as rent could be used for useful projects to enhance the general operations of the school.
According to him, each female student occupying the rented girls’ dormitory pays GHC15.00 annually towards the settlement of the rent bill.
He expressed the hope that the call would go a long way to impress upon the government to ensure the speedy completion of the project without any further delay.
