A ?300 million computer laboratory was on Saturday, March 17, 2001 commissioned at the St. Mary's Boys Secondary School, Takoradi, in the Western Region.

The computerization was in line with the school's plan to achieve excellence through education thereby implementing the Technology Advancement Plans for Schools (TAPS) designed and established by Infotech Solutions to assist second cycle institutions to acquire training and skill in computer software.

Briefing the press, Mr. Miran Bonaca, Technical Director of Infotech Solutions advised that for second cycle and tertiary institutions to play their required role in manpower development, communication and information technology must be integrated in Ghana's Education System.

The TAPS approach, therefore, seeks to help teachers to use computers in teaching and students to learn their various subjects also using the computer. Commissioning the project, the Catholic Bishop of the Sekondi-Takoradi Diocese, Rt. Rev. John Martin Darko, said the computer lab has come at the right time because it is key in the current process of globalisation.

He commended Infotech Solutions, the staff and management of St. Mary's Boys Secondary School as well as the PTA for their effort in introducing the students to hi-tech learning. Rt. Rev. Darko's speech was presented by Rev. Fr. Bebodu.
