Some concerned youth of Wa West district of the Upper West Region are calling on the President John Evans Atta Mills to remove the District Chief Executive of Wa West from office on what they term as arrogance and misuse of power in office on the part of the district chief executive, Honourable Seidu Tungbani, as his continued stay in office will affect the fortunes of the NDC as a party in the district and the region as a whole. This is contained in press statement issued and signed by some of the concerned youth led by their spokesperson Pii-tey Joseph.

The statement said there have been persistent calls on the president to remove the Wa West DCE honorable Seidu Tungbani from office due to what they say is his unaccommodating behavior in office to the detriment of the NDC as a party in government.

The statement said the DCE pretended to have mended his ways only for him to write a letter dated 28th of February this year which was addressed to the president stating that “it is only the regional minister and other mandated bodies who can monitor my work according to specific indicators”. This statement according to the concerned youth is an affront to the people of Wa West since according to them “it is the responsibility of the ruled to work as social monitors of his activities while he is in office” and therefore an understatement for the Wa West DCE to be associated with such statements, saying how can only the regional minster monitor him as a DCE.

The statement said the DCE has employed rough tactics to perpetuate himself in office but recent events demands that he should be removed from office. It stated that the DCE allegedly sold some GETFUND projects to some contractors and shared the proceeds to some relative including some NPP supporters in the district who supported an NPP parliamentary candidate, Major(Rtd) Yirmanbo. The DCE is also accused of bypassing party structures in the constituency and is seeking support of alleged influential people and regional executives not from the constituency and the district respectively and is busy fanning ethnicity by playing on the emotions of the constituents and has made it a usual habit of passing derogatory remarks against the youth of the district.

The concerned youth also accused the Wa West DCE of procuring a vehicle, a Nissan Navara Pick Up in 2010 but with 2009 registration number which as at press time has broken down and want a complete change of the engine. The statement said the DCE’s official vehicle, Ford Explorer with registration number GV 514 E and a Toyota Hilux with registration number GW 6113 Y have broken down due to what the concerned youth described as ‘lack of maintenance and reckless unofficial use’.

The statement concluded by expressing its gratitude to the president and the Upper West Regional minister for setting up a fact finding committee to investigate into the matter and advise appropriately.
