Awutu Beraku C/R), Mar. 2, GNA- The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Effutu, Mr Solomon Abbam Quaye has expressed his concern about the numerous police check points on the Winneba Junction-Kasoa road. According to him there are between four to six check points on the 32 kilometre road and wondered what the policemen actually want when they stop the drivers.

Mr Quaye said this at the inauguration of the newly created Awutu-Senya district at Awutu Beraku on Friday. Mr Quaye said he had received numerous complaints of "extortion and bribery from drivers, which in my opinion would not help the growth of the district".

He said the Assembly is not against the presence of the police on the road, but "they should not extort from the drivers, since we are putting a strategy in place to check them and those caught would be dealt with drastically".

"While advising the police I want to appeal to the drivers to do well to observe traffic regulations, adding that, most drivers when arrested and dealt with do not tell the public the truth of their offence".

On the creation of the new district, Mr Quaye said it behoves on the people to work hard in unity to develop the area and appealed to them to abide by the regulations of the assembly.

He said with the current rate of development at Kasoa, "it would be imperative for all of us to be mindful of how the environment was being destroyed as a result of the growth of the area". The DCE warned those putting up structures on waterways and other unauthorized places to stop because the assembly would not look on unconcerned.
