The concern citizens in Tarkwa-Nsuaem are planning to stage another massive demonstration in protest against the deplorable state of the Tamso to Wassa Agona road.
The residents who are upset, say they would mobilised other communities in the Municipality to take part in the exercise so that they could register their displeasure against the government.
Mr. Samuel Kwasi Asare, Secretary to the group, made this known to the media at a press conference in Ahwetieso.
He recounted that, weeks ago, the group demonstrated on the same road and thought the government would construct the four kilometers stretch on the Tarkwa-Takoradi Highway but to no avail.
Mr. Asare said the Tarkwa-Takoradi Highway is an international route, which help firms such as the bauxite company at Awaso and Ghana Manganese Company Limited (GMCL) at Wassa Nsuta, both in the Western Region to haul their products to the Takoradi Harbour and beyond for export.
He said "our investigation revealed that there are 310 haulage trucks that ply the road every blessed day to Takoradi Harbour to offload bauxite".
"Again, our search on GMCL further revealed that there are 450 haulage trucks that ply the road every day to the Takoradi Harbour to deposit manganese," the Secretary added.
Mr. Asare noted that articulator trucks conveying cocoa beans, timbers, various mining equipments, public and private cars also use the road.
"With the said analysis, it is clear that the road is under pressure of which is never our making and therefore we cannot be made to suffer the consequence," he said.
He stated that the group was aware that the Tarkwa to Takoradi road was in a bad state, but they were more concerned with the portions from Tamso, Bankyim, Akyempim, Ahwetieso and Wassa Agona, which have been neglected by the contractor.
