In the abundance of goodwill, love and comradeship, we the Concerned Students of Ghana (CSG) greet you all in the name of peace and harmony. This year has brought a lot of wonderful things to the students movement, never the less, we have also recorded worrying incidence like the closure of UDS, the case of rustication of the SRC President and secretary of UDS and that of the JCR Presidents of Unity and University hall.

However, the CSG would like to express its sincerest humility and gratitude to some of the nominations and appointments made the President of this noble republic, President Prof. John Evans Atta-Mills. The undaunted recognition of the role of the youth in decision making and good governance by the President is a remarkable achievement for the youth and for the matter the entire students’ movement. This is time when all students in this country must run beyond their political belongings to applaud and commend the decision of the President to involve the youth in governance.

First of all, CSG wishes to congratulate Mr. Haruna Iddrisu for his appointment as the Minister for Communications. In fact he is a pride of the youth and all ‘VANDALS’ as well. We would want to remind him of the enormous duty and resposibilty he owe to the suffering masses of this dear nation. Congratulations to all other appointed young ministers as well.

Fellow Ghanaians, we the CSG are indeed even more humbled by the nomination of our own colleague Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who has been a very committed ‘VANDAL’ like most of us in the CSG and a former NUGS President. Indeed the credibility of this gentleman is evident in the historical annals of Commonwealth hall, University of Ghana and that of the Students’ Movement.

This is as a result of his exceptional commitment to fighting for the rights of students and for that matter the masses; he played a very major role in the SRC of UG to the extent of becoming the SRC Press secretary in level 200. His influence in the initiation of the SRC students’ hostel cannot be over emphasized. He was voted as NUGS president in 2005, in a keenly contested NUGS election. Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa’s exceptional leadership skills were evident in the kind of passion he attached to issues concerning the rights of students. Indeed his efforts in the fight against authoritarian imperialism and oppression led to the University of Ghana’s unlawfully cancellation of his admission to the Law school. It was even more evident, when in 2006 some self seeking clandestine individual infiltrated the students movement to cause an unlawful secession of University of Ghana SRC from NUGS when he was the President, on the grounds that he was fighting for the rights of a student of University of Ghana, whom the then university authorities taught was a treat to their unwarranted, misguided, illegal and absolutely useless policies.

All this goes to emphasize that, Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa is someone who is committed to serving the interest of the suffering masses and for that matter being appointed as a Deputy Minister for Information is one of the best things that can happen to this country. Above all we would like to congratulate Mr. Okudzeto Ablakwa and as a matter of importance endorse his nomination for Deputy Minister of Information and pledge unflinching support for him. We would want to admonish him to bear in mind the need to work hard to the benefit of the ordinary Ghanaian and Students as well. He should also remember the motto of Commonwealth hall “TRUTH STANDS” and allow it to guide him.

Finally, CSG would also congratulate some other young nominees like Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, former NUGS President, Mr. Agyenim Boateng and all other young nominees for various positions of trust in government.

It is our dream and prayer, that you don’t forget the ideals and principles that guide you as a youth and for that matter, dedicate and champion the course of the youth in all your endeavors, because we are the future of this noble nation.

Signed: OTOKUNOR BOAMAH PETER Chief Spokesperson, CSG (Former JCR President, Commonwealth hall, UG) 0276902003 csggh@yahoo.com
