Concert Show To Win Sponsors For Orphans

Awutu-Odumasi (C/R), Dec. 10, GNA-Plan Ghana, an NGO and its Sweden counterpart have jointly organized a special international Television Concert Show (TCS) at Awutu-Odumasi in the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District of the Central Region. It was designed to win more foster parents Globally to assist Plan International, the parent organization, expand its activities in countries it is currently operating in for more orphans to benefit from its humanitarian duties.

Some 26,000 sponsors Worldwide expressed their willingness during the show to contribute financially and materially towards the realization of the aims and objectives of Plan International. Millions of people watched the impressive performance of the artistes telecast live from Awutu-Odumasi, a Plan Ghana-assisted community, near Awutu-Bawjiase. They included, Hosts Bengt, Agneta, Darin, Hakan Hellstrom, Laleh, all from Sweden, Obour and members of the Winneba Youth Choir, representing Ghana.

The three-day event attracted about l0,000 spectators, including chiefs, parliamentarians, district chief executives, Presiding Members, farmers, traders, fishermen, teachers and schoolchildren from Agona, Gomoa, Mfantsiman and the Awutu-Effutu-Senya districts where Plan Ghana operates. Speaking to the press, Mr. Amadu Bocoum, Country Director of Plan Ghana, said the concert, first be organized by the NGO and staged on the African continent, was designed to generate funds to support Plan International's branches worldwide.

Mr. Bocoum said out of the 46 countries in which Plan International operates, 15, including Ghana, are in Africa, adding that Plan Ghana is currently working in four regions in Ghana. They are, Central, Eastern, Greater Accra, and Upper West Regions. Mr Bocoum expressed his appreciation to all those who contributed towards the success of the show and pledged Plan Ghana's continued support and commitment towards the national crusade to meet the social and other needs of the orphans and the deprived communities in the country. He, however, called for the maximum co-operation and equal commitment from beneficiary communities in which Plan Ghana was operating by a way of providing adequate communal labour towards the implementation of all Plan-assisted development projects.

Mr. Solomon Kwashie Abbam-Quaye, District Chief Executive for Awutu-Effutu-Senya, and the Member of Parliament for Awutu/Senya, were also full of praise for the Swedish delegation and their leaders and their Ghanaian counterparts for organizing the show and hoped that the visitors would carry along with them excellent memories about Ghana and the people they interacted with during their brief stay in the country. Mr Abbam-Quaye and Mr Oppey Abbey extended similar gratitude to workers of Plan Ghana from the four Regions for their high sense of co-operation, team spirit and devotion to work, which had made the show a big success.
