Fri, 26 Sep 1997 Source: --

Accra,(Greater Accra Region) 24, Sept. The Most Reverend Andre Dupuy, Apostolic Nuncio in Ghana, today told delegates attending the biennial conference of the International Alliance of Catholic Knights (IACK) to be effective witnesses of the word of God. In a sermon at a pontifical High Mass at the Christ the King Parish Church to begin the 19th IACK conference in Accra, Archbishop Dupuy said ''proclaiming the good news is a task that belongs to all the baptized''. The two-day conference which will focus on charity is being attended by delegates from Ghana, Australia, Austria, the Gambia, Ireland, Nigeria, United Kingdom and United States. He told the knights that they ''ought to feel challenged more than any one else by the call of Christ in today's Gospel". ''Our mission is a call to life. To cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers and cast out devils''. The Nuncio recalled the charitable works of Mother Teresa of Calcutta who had given her life to the poorest, saying ''it was amazing to see queens, heads of state and other political leaders bow down before Mother Teresa's body''. Mother Teresa was the ''icon of the right of the child to life'', he said, adding that ''abortion and all artificial methods of family planning must be rejected''.
