The confusion over $4.4 million quoted as the real cost for the construction of the Rattray Park in Kumasi under the erstwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration headed by Kojo Bonsu then Mayor of Kumasi is far from over.
Latest indications are that Mr. Kojo Bonsu did not actually make public the real cost of the project that has been left to deteriorate at a progressive rate.
“The cost of $4.4 million is nowhere closer to what we are gathering”, the current Mayor for the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Osei Assibey Antwi has revealed in an interview on Nhyira FM monitored by MyNewsGh.com.
According to the Mayor, the Assembly will soon come out with an audit report detailing the real cost of the state-of-the art-project which has now turned into a white elephant contrary to the figure put out by his predecessor, Hon. Kojo Bonsu.
“I do not want to jump the gun but very soon auditors will come out with the real cost which I believe differs from what we were told”, the Mayor stated to the host ‘Kro Yimu Nsem’ political talk show, Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin.
“This is not politics. It is about Kumasi and its development”, Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi responded at the back of allegations that the facility is deteriorating under his watch as Mayor.
The controversy surrounding the exact amount which was used in constructing the Rattray Park seems far from over as Assemblyman for Suame and former Presiding Member of KMA, Kofi Senya and, an ex-government appointee to the KMA, Francis Dodovi has traded verbal assaults on air over the dicey issue.
