Confusion over missing ballot box

Half-Assini (W/R), Dec. 8, GNA - No result has so far been declared from any of the polling stations in the Jomoro Constituency of the Western Region after the December 7 election was declared over. This was because a ballot box from the Mempeasem polling station, which allegedly got missing immediately after the polls on Tuesday but was found later, had been handed over to the Police.

The ballot box and its content were suspected to have been tempered with.

The long delay in the counting of the votes is causing anxiety and suspicion among the people including parliamentary candidates who kept vigil at the assembly hall overnight amid singing of war songs and shouts of "thieves! thieves!".

The Jomoro Constituency has 154 polling stations.

Tension was gradually mounting as a result of the situation and additional security personnel were called to help to restore order. Meanwhile members of the District Security Council are meeting to find an amicable solution to the problem for the results to be released.
