PRESS RELEASE – 07/08/2010

……..Your nomination is deserving and unifying!

This is to congratulate the newly elected Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on his overwhelming victory in last Saturday’s election. It is a victory for the Party and thousands of Ghanaians who are looking for a complete leadership change in the management and supervision of our country. I congratulate Nana for staging such a unique, unifying and deserving victory which clearly points to a viable pathway for our return to government.

The decision of the Party to re-nominate Nana Addo as our Presidential candidate is hugely motivating and further underscore the character and attitude of the Party. We performed a significant task and delivered a decision in tandem with our determination to go into the 2012 with a single objective; that is to win both the Presidential and Parliamentary elections. This is a huge step towards attaining a massive electoral victory for our Party and country come 2012.

Nana Addo is a thorough Party man whose relationship with the Party is absolutely total. He has stood by our tradition, worked hard and contributed immensely to the development and growth of tradition and the country’s democratic dispensation

The response of Ghanaians at home and abroad have been extremely exciting, cheerful and confident with strong indications that the NPP, re-electing one of its biggest political assets of the Busia/Danquah/Dombo tradition as our Presidential candidate is poised to recapture the power we lost nauseatingly and unnecessarily to the NDC in 2008.

I commend you (Nana Addo) for choosing to serve our Party under these difficult circumstances when we will be fighting the election in Opposition with huge logistical and financial difficulties. You are truly a son of our great Party.

I am happy and confident that, your re-election would consolidate our support base, reconnect the Party with the grassroots networks and more importantly reach out to non-NPP voters and the totality of the Ghanaian electorate and establish a relationship with the community with our message of believe, security, endurance and progress.

Your number one most important task is to show leadership and role out a programme to unite the Party. I urge you to actively seek to work with the unsuccessful aspirants and all members of the Party across board devoid of acrimony, disrespect and hatred. Our Party would be looking up to for direction, purpose and above all an elaborate programme for our return to power.

You must also work closely with the Party machinery at all times with a sizeable team to manage your office. Your office of operation should be the Party Headquarters where party members can have access to you and members of your team.

I thank the delegates who represented the Party and the Nation and took this crucial decision on our behalf. You truly are men and women of great wisdom, patriotism and responsibility.

And to the other four unsuccessful contenders, I say you have not been defeated but rather contributed and participated vigorously in the process and engaged with Party at the grassroots level to enrich our values and credentials as a democratic institution where free and fair competition remain one of the core pillars of our identity as a political Party. You have helped re-energised the Party at the Polling Stations and made it stronger, purposeful and prepared for the task now and in the future. Your decision to serve our Party; in my view confirms your love and commitment to the Party. Your service is more than required now as the task ahead requires all hands on deck.

Finally, I want commend the membership, supporters and sympathisers of the Party in Ghana and the Diaspora for participating in the discourse; leading to the election of the Presidential Candidate. All must decamp now and support the NPP and the official campaign structure of the Party in our quest to re-seek the mandate of Ghanaians to take over the badly bruised country.

Thank you.
