Constituents Warn MP

... Over radio attacks on NPP

SOME OPINION leaders and residents of Bososo in the Fanteakwa district have warned the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, to refrain from hopping from one radio station to another, smearing the government with lies.

The residents reminded the MP that they gave him their mandate to go and represent them in Parliament and also to bring government to their doorsteps and raise the standard of living in the area and not to smear government with lies.

The residents gave the warning at a public encounter with their chief and the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Fanteakwa, Mr. Ofoe Ebenezer Caesar, at Bososo last week Monday.

The encounter gave the people the opportunity to come out with issues bothering their minds.

When the open forum segment was announced to give the residents opportunity to contribute, many hands shot up at the durbar grounds, an indication that they wanted to get issues off their chest.

Not surprising, those who were selected expressed unhappiness about the MP's conduct of condemning the government in the media.

This, they believe, the MP is doing to put the government in a bad light and fears were expressed that this could lead to their being denied their fair share of the national cake.

They advised him to turn on a new leaf by organizing meetings with them with a view to finding solutions to their problems.

Earlier in his welcome address, Bososohene Nana Owusu Amankwah, urged the district assembly to continue initiating development projects in the area.

He appealed to the DCE to arrange for a police station for the town to check unlawful activities, hook the area onto the national electricity grid, fill the empty classrooms with furniture and assist the town to build a public place of convenience.

He urged his subjects to support leaders of the area in order for them to rule effectively.

The DCE expressed regret that most of the projects in the area have been abandoned.

He assured that the district assembly would complete the real essential ones and leave for now the less essential ones.

He disclosed that 172 farmers who applied for the Poverty Alleviation Fund (PAF) loan would soon receive their capital to invest in their farms, with other categories such as traders, artisans, to follow later.

He further disclosed that the contract for the construction of a modern lorry park to decongest the area of vehicular jams has been awarded while work on the construction of the Begoro District Hospital has started.

He charged the youth and religious bodies to co-exist for peace to prevail in the area.

The DCE stressed the need for the people to keep their environment clean to prevent any outbreak of disease.

He also urged them to protect the forest from illegal chainsaw operators.

Caesar tasked the people to join the campaign against the spread of HIV/AIDS by embarking on house-to-house education on the disease.

He urged parents to send their wards to school and help even dropouts to learn employable skills for them to contribute their quota to national development.

He was full of praise for the Bososohene for his strong leadership role in mobilizing his subjects to embark on periodic clean-up exercises, and called on other leaders to emulate his example.
