Construction of new Police Station underway at Obodan

Obodan (E/R), June 14, GNA - The sod had been cut for the construction of a Police Station for the people of Obodan near Nsawam in the Eastern Region.

Nana Gyanwah Foriwah Sakyibea II, Queen of Obodan who cut the sod told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that the there was the need to replace the old dilapidated Police Station built in the 1940s.

Mr Osei Bonsu Amoah, Member of Parliament for Aburi-Nsawam commended the people of Obodan, a farming community for their self-help spirit in initiating projects before calling for government assistance.

He said the project being supported by the National Security Council would assist in crime reduction and create job opportunities for the youth who could be enlisted or recruitment into the Ghana Police Service.

Mr Amoah pledged GH¢20,000 towards the project.

Major Ignatius Awuni, Operation Officer of the National Security said already 200 bags of cement have been offered for the project and that the National Security Council would ensure that all the necessary materials were provided for the completion of the job.

Mr William Kotey Niikoi, Presiding Member of the Akuapem South Municipal Assembly expressed appreciation to the efforts of the National Security Council and the communal spirit of the Obodan Zonal Council and gave the assurance that the Assembly would commit funds towards the project.

Assistant Commissioner of Police James Azumah Abass Abaah of the Regional Police Command called on the people to support the police in providing information on criminals.

He also urged the youth not to engage alcoholism and other anti-social lifestyles that could ruin lives.

Mr Samuel Gamson, Assembly-member for Obodan, thanked the National Security Council for the assistance and called on the Police Administration to assist the youth in the area to enter the police service to help combat crime.
