Ghana’s Honorary Consul in Swaziland, Mr. Kobla Quashie and his wife, Mrs. Koekie Loretta Angela Makunyane-Quashie, on Friday 16th October 2015, donated 100 pieces of Ambu bags to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra. The medical device, also known as valve bag mask (BMV) resuscitator, would be used to provide assisted ventilation to patients who are having trouble breathing.

The donation was made on the heels of the call by Hon. Hanna Serwaah Tetteh, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, to all Ghanaian Missions abroad to support victims of the June 3rd Disaster that occurred in Accra earlier this year.

Presenting the Ambu bags, Mrs. Makunyane-Quashie noted that, they were responding to the needs of the less privileged in the society, especially children, and remarked that they were fulfilled by making the donation as it would go a long way to help save the lives of children and prevent premature deaths.

On his part, H.E. Mr. Kwesi Ahwoi, Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa with concurrent accreditation to Swaziland, extolled the couple for honouring the call by the Honourable Minister for Foreign Affairs. The High Commissioner hinted that the Ghanaian community in Swaziland would also be sending its widow’s mite in due course.

Receiving the BMV devices on behalf of the Management of the Hospital, Dr. Samuel Asiamah, Director of Medical Affairs, expressed the hospital’s gratitude to Mr. and Mrs. Quashie for their support, and said that the resuscitators would not only help save the lives of children but adults as well. He also used the opportunity to appeal to individuals and organisations to make donations in kind to the hospital.
