The Eastern Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has asked President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to continue projects started by Former President John Dramani Mahama in the region.

The President is on a three-day tour of the region to, among other things, inspect completed works on the Nkawkaw-Atibie road in Kwahu.

A statement issued by the NDC and signed by Kevor Mark-Oliver and Jamal Konneh, Regional Secretary and Regional Communications Officer, respectively, noted that it was also important for the president to continue the projects commenced by the NDC administration that have been abandoned by this government.

“We have taken notice, the intended tour of the President, Nana Akufo Addo, of the Eastern Region as we near a very dry and quite Christmas. We will like to bring to the attention of the president certain developments in the Region which his representatives may not draw his attention to.

Whilst we reckon that President Akufo-Addo will inspect projects completed by President Mahama like the Nkawkaw-Atibie road, proposed technical college of education at Afosu, and some private establishments, the President must also be interested in critical projects he has abandoned since he assumed office.

Notable are about five (5) abandoned Community Day SHS at various stages of completion. This project is critical in the wake of recent reports of meningitis and swine flu epidemics which some Senior High Schools in the Region and across the country have been victims. The president should take the opportunity to visit at least one Senior High School to experience at first hand the state of congestion and disorder that puts the life of these young students in danger.

The previous NDC government completed the Community Day SHS at Mim-Chemfreh, Maame Krobo, Kwahu-Fodoa, Akim-Takorasi, Akim Nyanoa-Kwaobaa which have been populated with students which otherwise could have exercebated the present conditions. The President should as a matter of urgency, complete those at Akim-Nyafoman, Apesua, Oborpah, Sekesua and Anum Apapam.

“The President, whilst on his way to pay a courtesy call on the Kwahuhene, or to inspect the Nkawkaw-Atibie road completed by President John Mahama, should take sometime to inspect the abandoned Kwahu East District Hospital at Abetifi. This project which is over 70% completed is on the heart of the Chiefs and People of Kwahu.

“The Regional Minister must also lead the President to visit native farmers who have been displaced from their villages by Fulani herdsmen and have become refugees in Kwahu Hweehwee. The children of such farmers will not be privileged to have a Christmas party with the president, unlike those in Kyebi on Friday. This is as a result of the lukewarm and unresponsive action to their plight.”
