Julius Ankrah, a contractor resident at Apowa near Takoradi, on Tuesday appeared before Takoradi Circuit Court B for allegedly issuing two false cheques.

He pleaded not guilty to two counts of issuing false cheques and the court granted him bail in the sum of GHC10,000 to reappear on March 1.

Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Richard Batey, said in September 2012 the accused person hired tipper trucks from two transport owners for a project he was undertaking at a mining site at Benso.

He said the accused came into agreement with the transport owners to pay the first complainant GHC800 and the second complainant GHC600 every working day and the first complainant worked for 25 days and the second complainant worked for 33 days.

DSP Batey said after the period, the accused issued two National Investment Bank cheques with face value of GHC 3,400 and GHC 3,800 to the complainants but the cheques were not honoured by the bank when they were presented on October 12, 2012.

The complainants reported the matter to the Police and the accused person was arrested.
