The contractors working on the new multipurpose Hajj Village for pilgrims travelling to Mecca expect the project to be completed by the end of 2026.
According to Mawums Limited, the contractors on site, the project is currently about 55 percent complete.
They gave the assurance during a tour conducted by the Board and Management of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) on Monday, February 16, 2026.
The Hajj Village project, spearheaded by GACL, forms part of efforts to improve the organisation of pilgrimage operations in the country while also creating additional non-aeronautical revenue streams for the company.
In February 2025, President John Dramani Mahama cut the sod for the construction of a permanent Hajj Village in Accra, aimed at improving the experience of Ghanaian Muslim pilgrims.
According to the President, the facility will provide a more organised and dignified environment for pilgrims before their departure to Saudi Arabia.
Once completed, the project will mark a significant step toward enhancing infrastructure to support Hajj operations and ensuring a smoother travel experience.
Speaking to the media after the tour, the Director of Projects, Engineering and Construction, Reverend Solomon Adjaso Abijah, said that although the works are behind schedule, substantial progress has been made.
He said the project is halfway complete and is expected to be finished before the next Hajj.

Abijah emphasised that the facility would serve as a multipurpose village with recreational spaces designed to help generate revenue for GACL and the wider economy.
“Overall, as we speak, we are about 55% complete. The residential building is 60% complete, the terminal building is 55% complete, the mosque is 50% complete, and all other structures are at an average of 50% completion. We are working very hard, day and night, to advance progress,” he said.
The Board Chairman of GACL, James Agalga, commended the contractors for the swift progress made so far.
He added that the village forms part of the President’s vision of providing a safe and conducive environment to facilitate travel from Ghana to Mecca.
He assured the board’s commitment to working closely with the contractors to ensure the village becomes operational by the end of the year.
“For me, the concept is commendable, and I would like to highly commend the contractor, Mawums Construction. We will encourage them to maintain momentum and adhere to the project timelines,” he stated.
