Contracts for sale exposé: Is there no honour among thieves? – Ben Dotsei Malor wonders

A former head of Communications and Spokesperson at the Office of the President during the erstwhile John Mahama’s presidency, Ben Dotsei Malor has castigated the Board of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) for attempting to distance itself from the scandal that has hit the authority, leading to the suspension of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Adjenim Boateng Adjei.

In a letter issued by the board, it states that it “does not influence tender processes conducted in accordance with Act 663,” and that it is optimistic that it “becomes clearer to the public that the Board does not have any control over the selection of Suppliers, Contractors and Consultants for goods, works and services presented by procurement entities in their applications for approval for Restricted and Single Source procurement processes.”

This attempt by the Board to exonerate itself of any wrongdoing appears to have angered Mr Dotsei Malor who has taken to Facebook to express his anger in a post sighted by MyNewsGh.com

He asks: “1.What’s the name of the Board Secretary? 2. What’s the name of the Board Chair? 3. Why can’t they get the name if the documentary right in the body of this spurious statement? 4. Why is the Board still speaking, instead of resigning? 5. Do we have no shame anymore? Or is there no shame among thieves?

Mr Malor who is a veteran journalist is currently the Chief Editor- Dailies, UN News at the United Nations.

The PPA scandal broke following a documentary by investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni that has uncovered that the CEO of the PPA has set up a company that wins and sells out government contracts to the highest bidder.

Investigations by freelance journalist, revealed that Talent Discovery Limited (TDL) a company said to belong to the embattled CEO was incorporated in June 2017, has won a number of government contracts through restrictive tendering.
