Coronavirus: 10,000 samples taken from police personnel for testing

A total of 10,000 samples have been taken from police personnel who were deployed onto the streets to maintain the lockdown in Greater Accra, Kasoa, and Kumasi following the outbreak of COVID-19 in Ghana.

The Police Administration says measures have been instituted to mitigate the possibility of officers testing positive for the coronavirus.

The Director-General of Public Affairs, Ghana Police Service, Sheila Abayie Buckman in an interview with Joy News said the move is to ensure the safety of frontline officers after the lifting of the partial lockdown.

“Prior to the enforcement of the partial lockdown, the OGP recalled police officers who were on leave to return to work so that we can all join forces. At any point in time you would have one officer undertaking one assignment that takes him or her off the road or out of office. So right now we have almost the full complement of all police officers in Ghana so isolating some officers because of health would be in the best interest and I believe the Police Administration taken it into consideration.”

Ghana’s case count has reached 1,154, with nine deaths. 120 people have recovered with 1021 persons well and responding to treatment.
