A total of fifteen (15) members working in Ghana’s legislature have been placed under self quarantine after returning from an official meeting abroad.
Among them are ten (10) Members of Parliament and five (5) staff of the Parliamentary Service.
They are undergoing self and voluntary isolation under the supervision of the medical doctor and other health professionals of the legislature for the mandatory fourteen (14) days as specified by health experts and re-emphasized by the House Speaker, Rt. Hon. Prof. Aaron Michael Oquaye.
The Speaker who disclosed this at an interactive session with some members of the Parliamentary Press Corps (PPC) on Monday, March 23, 2020, said the House will not compromise on any of its directives
“This mandatory self-quarantine for the MPs and staff is in full force”, he noted.
With the announcement by the Speaker, it means that the number of MPs under self-quarantine has risen from an initial two as announced last week.
