Coronavirus: 290 new cases recorded, case count now 14,007

Ghana has recorded 290 new coronavirus cases in 24 hours moving the case count to 14,007 from previously recorded 13,717.

However, per the new WHO discharge policy guidelines, the number of recoveries has seen an inspiring boost from 10,074 to 10,473

The new discharge protocols from the World Health Organisation and subsequently the Ghana Health Service means both recoveries and discharges are counted together.

Thus, asymptomatic (patients without symptoms) who are admitted would be made to go home after 14 days of treatment without a second test. Their second test, which was previously conducted at the hospital before their discharge, would now be conducted on the patient from home while they are under self-observation.

This means the number of active cases today, Sunday, June 21, 2020, stands at 3,449, from 3,558 as 399 new patients have either been discharged or declared coronavirus-free.

No new deaths have been recorded yet as the number of deaths remain 85.

According to the Ghana Health Service update, the regional breakdown didn't record any significant changes as Greater Accra continues to maintain the lead as the region with the most recorded cases.

So far all 16 regions in the country have recorded at least two cases.
