Coronavirus: Close our borders now! – Ghanaians tell government

Following the confirmation of Ghana’s first cases of the novel coronavirus, some Ghanaians have resorted to the power of social media to coerce government to close the country’s borders.

With a little over 1,000 individual petitions on Twitter, the hashtag, #closebordersnow is expected to garner more attention from both Ghanaians and government by reaching more people.

Though government in previous days has insisted that the country’s entry points remain safe, Ghanaian tweeps hold that “prevention is better than cure”.

President Akufo-Akufo-Addo in his official address on the global pandemic indicated that an amount of $100m has been allocated to fight the virus.

He also announced a temporary ban on foreign travels for all public officials.

But the president in his address was silent on whether his government would consider closing borders in the coming days.
