Coronavirus: Elevate technical committee to crisis management team – NDC to govt

Chairman for the opposition National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Covid-19 technical team says government must prepare for a rough ride following the jump in the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Ghana.

According to Prosper Bani, there will be a further rise in the coming days and is calling on government to convert its technical team into a crisis management team to properly address the situation.

Speaking during a media encounter on Tuesday, March 24, Mr. Bani said: “First of all, the Government’s Technical Committee must be elevated into a Crisis Management Team, to reflect that it is no longer an ordinary technical committee but that it is a committee made up of all sectors of the economy, to address the crisis that confronts us today.”

He added; “Today, we have the number 52. From all my assessment and the conversation with the NDC technical team, there is an expectation that his number will rise, and it will rise very very fast.”

“So be prepared for the rough ride. I can also tell you that this condition will worsen before it gets better if we put our acts together. It is doable if we work as a team if we work collectively and as one nation with one objective leading to the same solution,” he added.

Following the outbreak of the novel Coronavirus, government placed a ban on all mass gatherings with Ghana’s borders also closed to traffic.

Additionally, persons who arrived in the country are to undergo a 14-day mandatory quarantine.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Kwaku Agyemang Manu today announced that the number of coronavirus cases in Ghana has risen from 27 to 52 with the outbreak claiming two lives so far.

Information Minister, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah also revealed that government of Ghana is currently not considering an imminent shutdown of the country despite the spike in the country’s recorded cases of the deadly Coronavirus disease.
