Coronavirus: Guineans who tested positive to go back home

The 10 Guinean nationals who tested positive for Coronavirus in Tamale will be sent back to their country; Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has disclosed.

According to Mr Oppong Nkrumah, the Guineans were arrested and quarantined after they sneaked into the country.

Updating the press on the development, he stated that government was making final arrangements for the foreigners to be repatriated to continue with treatment.

Oppong Nkrumah made the announcement at a press conference on Sunday, March 29, 2020.

“The information I have is that the Ghanaian and other West African authorities are completing arrangements so that they can be repatriated to their country of origin so that treatment to take place there. So, they will not be treated in this jurisdiction,” he said.

He noted that the 10 Guineans arrived in the country 13 days ago and their presence in the country came to the attention of the government’s joint committee on health and security who immediately got them isolated.

They were tested for the COVID-19 despite not showing signs of the deadly pandemic. Their results came in positive around 10 am on Sunday, March 29, 2020.

The number of coronavirus cases stands at 152 with 5 deaths and 2 recoveries so far.

Meanwhile, some parts of the country, namely Greater Accra Region and Ashanti Region have entered day two of a lockdown directed by President Akufo-Addo as a containment measure against the rapid spread of the disease.
