Due to the President's directive for the lockdown of Accra and Kumasi as part of measures to manage the coronavirus pandemic, the Municipal Chief Executive for West Mamprusi Municipal in the newly created North East Region Honourable Arimyao Somo Lucky has mounted two checkpoints to ensure that people who are trooping into the Municipality from the lockdown cities are screened.

The screening exercise is being organized by the Municipal taskforce against coronavirus under the leadership of the MCE. The first checkpoint is at Nasia which happens to be the entrance of the municipal whilst Walewale, the municipal capital hosts the remaining centre. No case of coronavirus has been recorded so far in the municipality, and North East region as a whole. The screening is being carried out by health experts from the Walewale municipal hospital.

The purpose of the screening is to detect possible cases and to also take the data of new entrants into the Municipality.

Mr Somo Arimiyao remarked, “Today, we have not less than 25 buses that we have brought for the screening. And we have also made available a place at Walewale Senior High School to quarantine people who may be potential victims.”

He assured all residents of West Mamprusi Municipal that the quarantine centre is ready and available for use when necessary. And he shall do more in his capacity to ensure that the municipal is safe and free from the coronavirus.

The screening exercise is expected to continue for an additional day since more people are still trooping into the municipal from Accra and Kumasi.
