Coronavirus: Suspected patient at UCC tests negative

A suspected case of the novel coronavirus involving a patient at the University of Cape Coast Hospital has tested negative.

This was disclosed by the Director of the University’s Health Services, Dr Evans Ekanem.

In an interview with Cape-Coast-based ATL FM, Dr Ekanem intimated that blood samples of the patient, who was showing some symptoms of the virus, were taken to the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research for testing.

He described the results of the test as a relief to the school.

“We have been patiently waiting for the result of the test that was taken for our suspected client that was sent to NOGUCHI. We are happy to inform that the results are in and it tested negative. That is good news and relief to everybody,” he stated in the interview.

There have been over 50 suspected cases in Ghana that have tested negative of the virus which has since been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

As at 5 pm on Wednesday, seven cases were confirmed in the country. Two new cases were also confirmed this morning, totalling nine confirmed cases in Ghana so far.

The Ghana Health Service says that the patients are being treated in isolation and are stable.
