Coronavirus: UG allocates three bungalows to quarantine suspected cases

Management of the University of Ghana has allocated three of its bungalows to quarantine persons who will be suspected to be infected with the coronavirus.

The move by the University is part of its plans to deal with any possible outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) at University of Ghana campuses and the country at large.

Already, the University of Ghana Health Services and Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research have formed a Joined Emergency Response Team (UG ERT) to help handle matters.

Updating the University community on its preparedness to handle cases, authorities indicated that “all confirmed cases of COVID-19 infection will be transferred to Ridge Hospital immediately.”

It also says that “students and staff coming from China and those with travel history will be screened at the hospital and student clinics,” they added.

13 suspected coronavirus cases in Ghana test negative

Earlier this month, 13 persons, suspected to have been infected with the virus all tested negative, the Ghana Health Service announced. Out of the 13 suspected cases, three were from the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) and the remaining 10 cases were from people who reported to the hospital and were suspected of having the illness.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has designated the Ridge Hospital and the Tema General Hospital as centres to manage possible cases of coronavirus in the country.

The move is part of Ghana’s plans to prevent and control any case that may be detected in the country and ultimately protect the Ghanaian population.

The notice also has standard recommendations to prevent the spread of the infection as well as actions that have been undertaken by University authorities in the preparedness of a possible outbreak.
