The Management of the Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) has closed down the University of Ghana branch of the bank.

The management said this forms part of the bank’s COVID-19 health and safety measures after a student of the University of Ghana was tested positive for the infection.

The infected person is part of the six cases of coronavirus infections that Ghana has recorded.

UMB in a note on Tuesday, March 17 said: “Dear Valued Customer, as part of our COVID-19 health and safety measures, our UMB Legon campus branch will be closed temporarily from 16/3/20 until further notice.

“You can visit any of our branch networks or use any of our E-channels for your banking needs. Any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted.”

Meanwhile, Societe Generale has said it has cancelled the upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) which was supposed to take place at the Alisa Hotel on 26 March, 2020.

This follows the ban placed on all gatherings by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as part of measures to forestall the spread of the coronavirus infection.

In a statement, Societe Generale said “This notice refers to the Directive on public gatherings given on March 15, 2020, by the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

“Reference is also made to the Release by the Ghana Stock Exchange on Annual General Meetings of Listed Companies issued on March 16, 2020.

“The Bank has therefore cancelled the 40th Annual General Meeting which was fixed for Thursday, 26th March, 2020 at 11.00 am at the Alisa Hotel, Ridge Arena, Accra – Ghana.”
