Coronavirus: Western region is the new hotspot in Ghana - GHS

The Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, has named the Western Region as Ghana’s newest hotspot.

He made this revelation on Tuesday, May 26, 2020, during the Ministry of Information’s press briefing on coronavirus cases.

Addressing the press, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye said the number of covid-19 cases are surging and the Western Region is the new hotspot.

“The new hotspot is in the Western region which reported about 57 new cases. It is mainly the Sekondi Takoradi municipality and the metropolis and then Tarkwa. A team will be going to see how we can quickly assist the region just like we did in Obuasi. We are rolling out enhanced contact tracing to ensure containment”.

“As of 24th May 2020 a total of about 156 new cases have been recorded in Ghana and this goes to show the new trend of showing much fewer cases", he disclosed.

As at now, Ghana’s coronavirus case count has risen to 6,964 cases.

Meanwhile, 2,097 of persons who got infected with the virus have also recovered from the disease.

Regional breakdown

The Greater Accra Region is still leading the chart with 4,908 cases, followed by the Ashanti and Western Regions with 1,066 and 334 cases respectively.
