Coronavirus battle; Medihelp WEWA proffers solution

The world is currently fighting a dangerous pandemic known as Corona Virus, otherwise called Covid-2019.

The pandemic which has rendered humanity restless started in the late days of December 2019, in China, and since then has sneaked it way through numerous continents including Africa.

Ghana, which is one of the African countries to receive the shock of the infection, has already recorded 136 confirmed cases with 3 deaths and 1 recovery as at 26th March, 2020.

The government has subsequently closed it borders to human traffic and constituted a 14-day mandated quarantine period for all immigrants.

Meanwhile, government is looking forward to best solutions in curbing this pandemic. On Wednesday, 25th March, the Ghana Medical Association called on government to lockdown the country to prevent community infections.

The Medihelp West Europe – West Africa (WEWA), a health – related international NGO which has a former Ghanaian nurse now French resident as its President has therefore proffered solutions to the country.

In reaction to D33d3w Online story on Covid-19, Mr. Frank Agyemang Prempeh vehemently disagreed with those making the call for a total lockdown of Ghana. “Ghana isn’t like US, France, China, UK and others, that we can simply encourage a total shutdown” – Frank added.

He explained that, in Ghana, aside huge number of people who live from hand to mouth, most rely on public amenities like water, latrines, amongst others, which makes it difficult to enforce a lockdown. The security personnel are even inadequate to enforce a nationwide lockdown. He went further to say that government need to rather go for a partial lockdown, where Accra and Kumasi will be shut down and stop or limit inter – regional travels.

The President of Medihelp concluded that, the government should continue educating the people to take precautionary measures, invest in PPEs, and go the South Korean way of inculcating the habit of using the face masks amongst the populace, which is one the most effective means to stop the spread.
