As part of precautionary measures to calm the spread of the deadly Coronavirus pandemic, the Nzema East Municipal Taskforce against Covid-19 led by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Frank Okpenyen on Wednesday 18 March 2020, embarked on public education to sensitize people in the area on the need to stay safe during this trial moment.

They visited the entry points to the municipality, market places, lorry stations and schools.

Speaking to the people, Hon Frank Okpenyen said, a lot of pragmatic measures were being put in place by the taskforce to help combat the dreaded disease.

"Henceforth, vehicles and people entering the municipality are thoroughly screened and sanitized at two separate entry points in the municipality at Nyamebekyere and Ankobra Tollbooth,’ he added.

In an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb, the MCE charged his people to frequently wash their hands with soap and running water for at least 20 seconds.

He also added they should eat well, do more exercise and pray earnestly.

Hon. Okpenyen, therefore, advised them to keep a social distance of at least one metre from people and as well try not to touch their eyes, nose and mouths with their unwashed hands.

He called for non-politicization of the disease and urged them to follow the President's directives.

"Let's do away with partisan politics because this is not about NPP NDC, let's all come together fight against this Coronavirus and I will call on other benevolent organizations to support the fight,’ he emphasized.

He seized the opportunity to provide Veronica buckets, liquid hand soaps and tissues and put them at some vantage points in the municipality.

Some residents and travellers who spoke to GhanaWeb expressed their happiness and commended the MCE and the Assembly for such an initiative and promised to take all the preventive measures seriously.

They, also appealed, to other stakeholders to join in the government's effort to help in the fight against the disease which has now been described globally as pandemic.
