Coronavirus restrictions meant to stop Mahama’s 2020 campaign – Ama Benyiwa Doe

Former member of the Council of State, Ama Benyiwa Doe has said the main reason for the closure of schools, churches and the freeze on all forms of public functions by President Akufo-Addo in the wake of COVID-19 is meant to stop the 2020 election campaign of John Dramani Mahama.

The Government of Ghana has on Monday, March 16, 2020, imposed a ban on all public gatherings conferences, funerals, festivals, political rallies, church services, Islamic worship and all school sessions as a measure of mitigating the spread of the novel coronavirus in the country.

President Akufo- Addo said the directive followed an earlier meeting of Inter-Ministerial Committee on coronavirus response which he chaired and it deliberated on the issues.

“I have decided, in the interest of public safety and protection of our population, to review the public gathering advisories earlier announced,” he said in a nightly national address.

With Ghana’s case count currently standing at 4,012, Mrs Benyiwa Doe, a former Central Regional Minister maintains the reason the restrictions are still in force are sinister and meant to frustrate John Dramani Mahama’s re-election bid.

She said in an interview on Kumasi-based Angel FM monitored by MyNewsGh.com on Friday morning that, despite the government’s agenda against Mr Mahama, he would still win the elections should it be held in December.
