President John Mahama has given the strongest indication that the indicted judges in the judicial corruption scandal will not escape the net of prosecution.

Mahama said the right procedure will be followed against the 34 judges who were videotaped allegedly taking bribes to free suspected criminals in their court.

Speaking to France 24 in France, Mahama stressed once a prima facie case has been established against the judges “criminal proceedings will be done.”

“We’re following the constitutional procedure.”

He said his office is following the case keenly and “if they [judges] are found culpable they’ll be removed from the bench.”

According to him, acting on the petition of ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, whose private firm – Tiger Eye PI – conducted the undercover work shows that “Ghana’s system is robust and working.”

He has already suspended seven of the High Court judges implicated in the scandal.

The are Justices Francis K. Opoku, Kofi Essel Mensah, John Ajet Nasam, Ernest Obimpeh, Kwame Ohene Essel, Ivy Heward-Mills and Gilbert Ayisi Addo.

A total of 34 judges are being investigated following the three-hour documentary revealing how they took bribes to throw away cases before them.

Twelve lower court judges are also on suspension in connection with the case.
