Member of the Council of State, Sam Okudzeto, is calling on authorities to institute radical measures to curtail corruption.

For him, he prefers corruption is described as a cancer and not a canker because “it requires drastic surgery for it to be eradicated. I’m using the word advisably”.

Addressing a round table organised by the Institute for Economic Affairs (EIA) on Wednesday 14 March 2018, under the theme, "Can Ghana win the fight against corruption?" the senior lawyer expressed dissatisfaction about the upsurge of corruption in the country.

Mr Okudzeto is calling for concerted efforts and an all-inclusive approach to dealing with corruption regardless of political affiliations.

“For God sake put the party aside and look at the national interest,” he pleaded.

He espoused some consequences of corruption noting the inability by government to provide some basic social infrastructure to enhance teaching and learning in basic schools because funds that could be used for such development projects have been siphoned by public officials.

In his presentation at the event, Former Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) boss, Emile Short highlighted the need to deal with needles in all sector bureaucracy of the economy.

He said politicians have failed to understand corruption hence their inability to fight the menace. He entreated government to constitute a special team to spearhead the anti-corruption plan.

He further entreated politicians to desist from appointing people to public office by virtue of their political inclination.
